Tech Open Day at the Wyeside
Our Tech Open Day at the Wyeside was a resounding success!
We started the day with fun name games, before learning about 3 different types of lights: par can, fresnel, spot. We also looked at LEDs, amperage, gobos and gels, rigging. Loads of technical stuff to learn!
Then stuff got really fun, starting by going through the lighting desk and lighting cues with Tim from the Wyeside. He showed us a few examples of how it all works and showed us how to use audio mixers. We then started on everyone's favourite area: projection mapping and Qlab! Jim Elliot led a quick intro and everyone was extremely excited to delve into this in more detail.
Task Time:
We split into 3 teams and came up with a very short play where we applied what we learnt in all 3 elements (projection, lights and sound). We came up with an idea of a cheerleader dancing in a gymnasium, when suddenly a zombie enters, chasing and biting. This was so much fun - we were all busy and applied our knowledge very well to create something amazing in a short space of time.
Finishing with a presentation about stage management, the job requirements and different types - led by ex-MPYTer Felicity Bulbulia. She gave us templates and activities to help us understand the role better.
Great day all around! A great tech team is forming and now we can't wait for the show!
