Six Stories Along the Heart of Wales Line

Our recent project with Mess Up The Mess and Yello Brick Theatre Companies has come to an end - and what a journey it’s been (in more ways than one!).

After a many journeys back and forth from Ammanford (and many cancelled trains, thanks to the snow), we finally completed this project. 

Together, we created six original audio stories inspired by six different locations along the Heart of Wales line. Each piece was shaped by the atmosphere, history, sounds, and character of these locations, resulting in a collection of strange, thoughtful, funny, and immersive listening experiences.

Our young people experimented with found sounds, recordings, foley, voice acting, layered audio textures, and plenty of trial and error along the way. Some moments came together exactly as planned, while others appeared completely by accident - which often turned out to be the best parts.

Working collaboratively across theatre, sound, storytelling, and visual art gave the whole project a fun energy.

Most importantly, people connected with the work. The response to the stories has been genuinely lovely; at our "listening party", we relived all the stories, and showed our newer members all the hard work we have been doing!

This collaboration reminded us how much there is to learn from different theatre companies. Huge thanks to everyone involved at Mess Up The Mess and Yello Brick for the fun times, friendships and foley!
