Walkabout

MPYT is collaborating with Future of Fauna to bring a walkabout performance to Green Man 2025.

Future of Fauna are an art collective, birthed from the imagination of Megan Elinor and Kaylum Cosgrave, deep in the hills of rural Mid Wales. They represent the new wave of folklore, synthesising tradition and our fast-paced, ever-changing modern world.

Together with members of out MPYT+ group, they are embarking on an ambitious project... arachnophobes beware!

Intensive week

Members of the MPYT+ group were invited to Llanidloes, where under the expert guidance of puppet maker Jodie Jew Yates, they got down to work creating a huge, fully mobile spider puppet.

Next steps will be finishing the design, creating costumes for our actors, and character development! Our MPYT+ group are absolutely thrilled to be involved!

Learn about the vision below...

“If you want to thrive, keep a spider alive…”

An interactive walkabout performance with Celtic folklore and mythology at its heart. Inspired by Arianrhod the spider from ‘The Mabinogion,’ known for her silver wheel, symbolising the ever-turning circles of time and fate.

Today, she is reimagined as ‘Arian’. She and her weavers invite the people of Green Man to discover their fates and weave them into her loom, and thus the fabric of time itself. A collaborative tapestry full of stories and intertwining fates – forging bonds of community in an ever-more isolated world.

Keep your eye out for the wonderful Welsh weavers; listen for echoes of our ancient language; and let yourself be drawn into the world of Arian the spider.
