Getting ready for the Autumn Show!
We kicked things off with two brilliant pre-casting workshops on April 29th and May 6th - and what a start! Young people aged 14–24 came together to share ideas, explore themes, and get a taste of what’s to come. These sessions weren’t just about casting - they were about collaboration, creativity, and shaping the vision for our next big production.
So, what is that production? We’re proposing The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time for Autumn 2025 at Wyeside Arts Centre — but the final decision isn’t set in stone. The voices and ideas from the workshops are playing a big part in shaping what this show could become.
The energy and imagination in the room were seriously exciting. Whether you're keen to be on stage or work behind the scenes, we’re building something bold, creative, and completely youth-led — and we can’t wait for what’s next. Autumn, here we come!
Who will you work with, and what roles are available?
It's not too late to sign up for the show! There’ll be loads of ways to get involved — on stage or behind the scenes. Sign up here.
Mid Powys Youth Theatre is built on a belief that young people thrive when given responsibility, voice, and high expectations in a supportive environment.
There will be roles for:
- Actors, musicians, singers
- Technicians, designers, and costume makers
- Filmmakers, photographers, and graphic artists
Each role is supported by mentors who are working professionals in the arts, offering training, expertise, and guidance as you learn by doing.
You’ll be treated with respect, given space to contribute creatively, and be supported to take ownership of your work — whether you’re aiming for a career in the arts or just want to try something new in a vibrant, welcoming team.
Many of our members have gone on to successful careers in theatre, TV, and the wider creative industries. Others have gained skills, confidence, friendships, and self-belief that have supported them in all walks of life. You can read their stories here.
What’s the time commitment?
Creating a high-quality production takes time, energy, and care. There will be a summer school in the first week of August which we will encourage you all to attend, we will do some early work on the script and themes. From September to early November, performers and technicians will meet:
- Tuesdays (evenings)
- Saturdays (full days)
- Plus some Sundays and Thursdays closer to the show
You’ll also need to be fully available for:
- Autumn half term rehearsals, including the last weekend for technical rehearsals
- Production week 3-8th November (including evenings and a matinee performance)
Backstage roles like photography, film, or costume support may have more flexible hours, but still require commitment and reliability.
This is hard work — but the kind that makes you proud, connected, and energised. It may make you question the meaning of the word. You’ll make great friends, grow in confidence, and create memories that last a lifetime.
How much does it cost?
We’re committed to making this opportunity accessible to all.
- Membership is £60 for summer and autumn (bursaries are available — please ask)
- We’ll help you plan around public transport, and many families already carpool
If cost or travel are barriers — don’t let that stop you. Get in touch at hello@mpyt.co.uk and we can discuss options including full or partial bursaries.
Do you audition?
No. If you want to be involved, there’s a place for you.
MPYT is committed to creating a space where everyone is welcome, and where you can discover what you’re good at, what you love, and how you can grow. We do cast larger roles based on experience, availability, interest, and commitment, but smaller roles are vital to making the production sing.
These productions give young people an opportunity to work out and discuss their opinions and feelings about their place in their world and for that we need diverse experiences and perspectives...not just the bravest or 'best' actors.
