Past Productions
2015 - Forgetting Anastasia
MPYT’s epic, ensemble style was let loose on this satire of the Russian Revolution exploring the mythology of the ‘lost’ Princess in fine style.
2016 - Not the End of the World
Powerful adaptation of Geraldine McCaughrean’s 2012 novel reimagining Noah and the Flood.
2017 - The Hoarders Fountain
Junior MPYT performed in Builth with this powerful eco fable, imagining a future mid Powys without water.
2017 - How to Mend the Broken Heart
Following a year of community engagement, research and devising; and thirty years after MPYT’s very first production, this collaboration with Age Cymru dramatised the lives of the communities of mid Powys since 1987, with participation from ages 9 to 90.
2018 - A Midsummer Night's Dream
Junior MPYT had great fun with this classic. Home performances at Builth Wells High School led up to a ‘Midsummer Night’ show in the very special atmosphere of a Willow Globe evening.
2018 - Switch
Led by Swedish artist Emmanuel Almborg: this collaboration between MPYT and Immediate Theatre (London) was devised in Hackney; rehearsed and performed in Llandod. The exchange featured 12 young people from both locations and Emanuel’s film of the project -‘The Nth Degree’ - has since toured the world at film festivals.
2018 - Oh What a lovely War
Oh, what a huge success - in every way! This much-loved satire of the Great War was seen by over 500 people during a week at the Wyeside in Builth. (They’re still singing!)
2019 – ‘Empty Water’
Written by two senior MPYTers taking inspiration from the themes of ‘The Crucible’; Gwen Rees & Nia Bolland crafted a brilliant drama for Junior MPYT that explored superstition, gossip and the power of the mob.
2019 – ‘The Crucible’
The Lost Arc in Rhayader was the perfect space for this tense thriller, and Arthur Miller’s classic parable might have been written for this intimate setting as MPYT played to packed houses and rapturous receptions.
2022 - Variations
Taking part in the NT ‘Connections’ programme for the first time, Katie Hims sharp-tongued tale of sibling rivalry in parallel universes played both at home in Lland’od and to a barnstorming reception at the NT partner festival in Aberystwyth.
2022 - Little Timmy Fell Down a Big Hole
Devised by the company: a powerful tale of corruption and exploitation in the murky world of ‘big energy’, set in a dystopian company town.
2023 - Brainstorm
Every autumn half term, Mid Powys Youth Theatre take over Centre Celf and bring together all we've been working on for the last couple of months, into a final production.
For 2023, our production was BRAINSTORM; a unique, brilliant exploration of the teenage brain; groundbreaking science, real lives. Like nothing you've seen.
